Situated in the eastern part of the Parc
Régional Naturel du Luberon
,
Grambois is a charming hill-top village with an altitude of 370 m.
Grambois is a picturesque Provençal village which has kept
its own unique style and character, thus resisting the construction
of new buildings. Visitors
soon fall under the charm of Grambois, with its paved streets and pretty
gardens, and the old stone houses that have been carefully restored.
Film-maker Yves Robert was so enchanted by the village that he shot
several scenes from his film "La gloire de mon père"
here.
Grambois is a typical Provençal village, as described by
Marcel Pagnol and Jean Giono.
While walking in the town
you can discover the door of the ramparts,
the passage-way "de templiers" with ornate windows as well as a beautiful
nobles' residence built on the foundations of a 9th century château
(privately owned today).
In the 14th century, Grambois
was one of the 12 fortresses of Provence and this explains its rich
heritage.
