Sitated in
the Parc Naturel Régional
du Luberon , La Bastidonne is a typical
Provençal country town. While walking through its narrow streets
you will soon come accross the most charming houses. By taking the rue des
Ferrages or the rue de l'eglise, you will discover the communal washing
place, the fountain and the delightful place du Barri. When you finally
arrive at the rue du Château, you can admire the Luberon, the Durance
river plain and "la chaîne de l'Etoile".
A pleasant walking tour can be made to the plateau
de St Julien. Situated about 1km from the village, the plateau is a natural
fortress at an altitude of 450 metres. Not only will you discover the
ruins of an old chapel, but there is an excellent view of the Durance
river and the Sainte-Victoire mountain.
You can also visit the domaine du Grand Réal. This huge, rich area
was apparently inhabited by several monks, although only the remains of
the priory and the chapel can be seen today. At the nearby "ferme restaurant"
you have the opportunity to savour some true rural produce, or you can
buy some and cook it yourself!
