La Crau Pop. : 14.844 h. Surface : 3,787 ha |
![]() La Crau is situated between the Maures
mountains and Mounts Faron and Coudon in the west, The town extends out
onto the alluvial plains which face the south.
When one looks at La Crau one notices two contrasting areas: to the north are the wooded hills and their valleys of vineyards, to the south one sees plains planted with vegetables and flowers. All the land is irrigated by the
Gapeau river whose banks have been tastefully fitted out. Because of its vast territory there are several localities within La Crau, the largest being that of La Moutonne with 4000 inhabitants. Even without great historical importance, La Crau attracts many tourists because of its old streets and shady squares set up for games of boules, and the outings on the river Gapeau. At 300m. altitude, Mont Fenouillet offers a superb view. The economic life of this community is directly linked to its nice weather, with vineyards, flowers and vegetables being the main source of livelihood outside of tourism. |
