Saint Andiol Population : 2,627 |
8 km west of Cavaillon
and 20 km north east of Saint Rémy de
Provence take the N7 and the D99
|
Situated on the N7, close to the A7 and near the border of the departments of Bouches du Rhône and Vaucluse, Saint Andiol makes an excellent jumping-off point for travelling around the region to see the excavations at Glanum, the Antiques of St Rémy, the citadel of Les Baux de Provence, the château at Tarascon, the villages of the Lubéron, the museums of Arles and Salon, the abbey of Frigolet, the Cavaillon market, the Avignon festival and so on.
The
château has been converted into a sports and cultural centre, and
so the grounds are open to the public. You’ll meet children running
up and down the stairs or playing in the courtyard. A Don’t miss the chapel of Ste Croix, which was built in a pure Romanesque style and dates from the 9th centry. If you want to regain your energy and boost your vitamin intake, go and see the “Musée Pressoire de Provence” (the Provence Press Museum) where you’ll learn about the history of fruit juice and its production since the beginning of the last century. There is a small workshop, where fruit juice is produced. You can also visit the orchard and, of course, sample the end product. |
