Roquevaire

Population : 7,924 inh.

Bouches du Rhône department

East of Marseilles, on the N8 between Aubagne (4km) et Auriol (6km).
In the foot-hills of and the length of the Huveaune river.

Delightful little bridges cross the river, adding a romantic touch to the scene. The village has preserved its Provencal identity and is in the heart of the countryside so dear to the French writer, Marcel Pagnol. Visitors can follow the hiking trails along the hill-sides until the Sainte Baume.

Amongst its treasures, Roquevaire has the oldest chapel in Provence, which is classified as an historic monument.

In the 18th century Eglise St Vincent, you will find the grand organ belonging to Pierre Cochereau, the former organist at the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris.
