Séranon
was initially situated on a crest, during the dangerous period of
barbarian invasions.
It subsequently moved down onto the plain at the foot of an impressive
cliff carved out by erosion. It faces due south in a pastoral setting
of wooded hills.
Although the district is worth visiting especially for its landscapes,
a quick visit to the village will give you the opportunity to admire
a wash house, a fountain (dating from 1898) and a pétanque
pitch, all typical Mediterranean features!
You
will also be able to admire some wild cherry trees and two majestic
chestnut trees. There are also sloping, narrow streets leading to
a small square, where you will discover some curious looking rusty
old agricultural machines on display on a flower-covered grassy
patch!
As
a matter of interest, Séranon played host to a famous visitor
in 1815 which is a source of pride for the village: on his return
from Elba, Napoleon spent a night here, though according to legend
he did not sleep, because he feared for his life!
Don't leave Séranon without getting one of its little souvenirs:
a sculpture on wood signed by the local artist or quite simply
a good cow's milk cheese ! |
