Roure
is a small hill top village at 1.160m altitude, located in the Tinée valley,
on the road which leads up to the ski stations. take the time to visit this
charming village... ancient village houses, Lauze roof tops, ancient doorways
with carved lintels and pedestrian paved narrow streets....All this within
the wonderful natural surroundings of the Mercantour
National park!If you take time to talk to the local residents
they're sure to tel you about the history of the Arboretum, the tree Museum
which was created and is supported thanks to the efforts of numerous local
volunteers, nursery owners and artists.
Geology
enthusiasts will like Roure because the village is situated on the boundary
fault between the Permien and the Trias. It also has one of the two menhirs
in the Alpes Maritimes (the other is at Castellaras) a beautiful edifice
in pink stone, 2,27m high.
Roure
offers wonderful walking through the pastures and larch forests or by
following the GR5 (long distance path). At the pastures of Lougon at 2.000m,
you'll find a mountain refuge offering shelter, situated in a wonderful
context and open all summer... here you'll discover superb landscapes.
