Mougins

16,287 Inhabitants

Department of the Alpes Maritimes

3km north of the A8, between Cannes (6km) and Grasse (10km).

Mougins is without doubt one of the most wonderful places to visit on the Côte d'Azur. Only 15 minutes from Cannes, this superb medieval village is set amongst pines, olives and cyprus trees.

Surrounded by forests (the Valmasque forest covers 427 hectares) Mougins has kept the quality of its environment intact, and offers visitors, from the height of 260 metres, a panoramic view of the "baie de Cannes", the Lérins islands, Grasse and the "Préalpes".

As soon as you arrive in the village, you will be seduced by the charm of the narrow roads, bordered by colourful flowers and superb ancient houses. Picturesque door-ways with each stone carefully restored, beautifully designed window-frames... there's a delightful detail everywhere you look!

With the imprint of the past subtly conserved, the harmony of the colours and quality of light has seduced many artists and celebrities who have chosen to stay in Mougins, including Picasso (who spent the last 15 years of his life here), Cocteau, Fernand Léger, Paul Eluard, Man Ray, Winston Churchill, Christian Dior, Catherine Deneuve, Edith Piaf, Jacques Brel...amongst others. Mougins has always had close links with the art and cultural world.

On the village outskirts, luxurious properties are hidden behind magnificent Mediterranean parks and gardens. It is not just by chance that Mougins today continues to be one of the "must-sees" on the Cote d'Azur. While you are near the coast and all its cultural events, at the same time you can take advantage of the quieter life found inland - although Mougins has two golf-courses, more than 40 restaurants, (including the famous Moulin de Mougins belonging to Roger Vergé), 20 art galleries and studios, not to mention its enchanting ambience!
