Peyruis is situated on the right bank of the Durance, in a lush green environment
surrounded by hills. At the summit of the village, you can see the ruins
of the feudal chateau which was a strategic fortress until the 1789 revolution.
While walking in the pleasant streets in the village centre, you will discover
some beautiful ancient houses (some of them have details on their facades
dating back to the 16th and 17th century).
You will come across some old
fountains overflowing with crystal-clear water sourced directly from the
valley's springs. The parish church is worth a visit for its 17th century
windows, its 19th century painted murals and 15th century Gothic chattels.
Visitors can rest awhile at the "place de la République". Shaded
by plane trees, you can take part in a friendly "boules" tournament
and enjoy the heavenly Provencal atmosphere that reigns at Peyruis.
