Clamensane is built on a slope on top of a rocky
ridge, overlooking the plain where the Sasse river flows, and makes you
feel somewhat
giddy. You'll certainly need good strong calf muscles to climb up its
steeply sloping main street, but you'll be rewarded by the wonderful view
of the valley, over the old Roman tile roofs. With a mixed bunch of houses,
some of which have been abandoned, a fine bell tower built from pink stone,
and several stone-built barns just waiting to be restored, Clamensane
definitely has a lot of charm.
You won't be disturbed by the neighbours, consisting of a few retirees,
some sleepy dogs, and pecking hens ... No doubt you'll come across a tractor
loaded with hay, and you'll be able to buy some truly fresh eggs, laid
that very morning!
